🌱Sykes Timber is a family owned timber merchant, founded in 1862 and specialising in both hardwood and softwood, to be used for boat building, musical instruments and work tops etc.

We are singing Sykes Timber’s praises because…
🌱 They are making great strides to maintain their business ventures whilst giving back to the environment as much as possible, and intertwining sustainability within their business model.
Sykes Timber’s steps towards a greener planet:
🌱Awarded a regional environmental award for their recycling and energy-use initiatives (such as natural air drying of timber).
🌱 Sykes Timber stringently references the UK Timber Regulations to prevent illegally harvested timber being placed on the market- they contact suppliers for clarification on the steps they are taking to promote sustainable production, actively keeping their supply chain as considered as possible.
🌱 Solar panels have been installed to power their sawmill, finishing mill and offices- offsetting 42 tonnes of CO2. Their heating and hot water also comes from wood burners- Sykes Timber are driving to become wholly reliable on renewable and waste product produced energy.
Pro’s & Cons of working with wood:
🌱 Wood is recyclable, biodegradable and non-toxic which is very positive for the planet. However, the timber industry has significant responsibility to replant forests and ensure they are not lost to industrial needs.
🌱 Sykes Timber have planted over 25,000 trees across several locations. These planting locations are managed directly by Sykes Timber as sustainable forestry operations.
