Joanna Tall
In a nutshell, I want to enable businesses to transact with customers and suppliers in a way that combines their commercial needs with their sustainable targets using climate-friendly contracts.
Why I Do What I Do
Whilst I love small print and being a lawyer, in my spare time I am also a lover of the great outdoors. In recent years, as I sailed the high seas, I couldn’t help but notice extreme weather patterns becoming ever more frequent and actually very threatening at times to myself and my family. At that moment, I felt that I had to do something.
It occurred to me that perhaps I could help the planet wearing my legal hat. What if I could use my many years of experience of dealing with businesses large and small combined with my legal ‘wordsmith’ skills to build green commitments into commercial contracts that would do just that: get the suppliers and customers to commit to doing all they possibly could to trade with each other in a sustainable, planet-friendly way?
‘The Green Lawyer’ was born and I embarked on a voyage of discovery of all things green, from recycling and carbon accounting to sustainable leadership. That voyage and the learning continues. Indeed, the sustainability ‘chart’ is still being mapped out by governments, but what is clear is that now is the time to act.
The demands on business to act responsibly, to report on what they are doing, are no longer optional. I am here to help you navigate those waters and meet your sustainability obligations with innovative climate contracting, one green clause at a time.
Together we will build a greener future.
My Expertise
As the owner of my own business, I am both a lawyer and an entrepreneur and therefore feel uniquely placed to understand the needs of businesses and speak their language. Having travelled extensively and grown up abroad, I not only speak several languages fluently, but embrace cultural diversity and traditions.
Outside of work, I embrace nature, which usually involves being either in or on the sea, using just the elements of tide and wind to get around. I have recently taken up watercolour painting in the hope of capturing the scenery around me. It is clearly a skill that very much needs improving and I will not be giving up my day job just yet! However, it is teaching me to really look at the world around me, to slow down and notice every little detail.
